WHITE JEANS : However, I think your critical thinking could use some help.... or whoknows, maybe you subscribe to the belief in tribalism!!??.....Retraction is in order with regards to my prior posted commentsregarding Susan Stocker's posted reply. It appears that there may have been a server-generated comedy of errorstriggering a series of misperceptions. One of those "truth is strangerthan fiction" situations. After being advised as to what the actualchain of events may have I can only express my sincere apologies to Ms.Stocker for my comments directed at her. However I have no desire to modify a prior comment regarding theinappropriateness of social biases, and slavishness towards presumedsocial conventions,... relating to what is or is not "fashionable".My only regret is that I did not originally spell "social biases"properly...i don't necessarly think that white jeans on a guy equalls gay, but i canhonestly say that seeing white jeans on a guy are a turn off for me. just myopinion, and i don't have a good reason...just think they look dumb. infact, now that i think about it, i don't really like them on myself either. wow...i really just hate white jeans period...i never knew i felt that stronglyabout it until you brought it up. i think i'm gonna write a letter to everyonethat makes white jeans and tell them to stop it before i flip out and take ahostage. white jeans are the anti-christ.

WHITE JEANS : But what about all those Navy guys decked out in tight white pants-ummmmm!!! Definately not looking dumb- just incredibly sexy Luckymom wrote:* What's the verdict on men's white jeans for this summer? Some people think* white jeans equal gay. But myself and a lot of other "straight" guys put* together a good look with white jeans, a simple dark tee or button down shirt,* and a pair of boots (black or natural Timberlands). What brands/fit are in?* Levi's 501s, 550s? The only problem is a lot of the places you want to wear* them in summer (picnics, amusement parks, outdoor fairs, etc) tend to be* filled with the hazards of dirt and grass stains. I'll never forget the day I* got dragged into a volleyball game. I'm an agressive player, white Levis be* damned! After one diving spike, those were trashed. But hey, we won!* * Looking for your thoughts,* Dyan Williams

WHITE JEANS : The subject line says it all. I'm thinking of replacing a 40 year old Kenmore with a 1222 Pfaff for $300 or a new White for $220. I will make maybe 10 kitesper year. Any advice will help! Thanks in advance-Really, no contest here. I started out a few years ago with a White 1810. Although the stitch quality is very good, you will soon become frustrated with the feeding action.I just got my second computerized Pfaff - not the least bit sorry. I set one up for seams, the other for trim work - leading edges, reinforcement patches, etc.Bill, Snap it up quick !!!A local Viking dealer/shark/prick is attempting to unload a 1222for .. get this !!! $900 !!! used !!! Why do so many sewing machine dealerships emmulatestereotypical used car operations re ethics ???Hey, bill, this would not go thru mail bounce back so it's in r.kBob, I'm in the same boat as you, in regards to the number of kites I will makea year, and yes I am reasonably new to making kites. I just bought a Pfaff1222 for $350 and it was the best purchase I could have made. That walkingfoot allowed me to sew incredibly better than the other machines I've used.I can match the kite fabric at the top of a seam, sew a 6 foot seam, havelittle or no wander in the seam, and the fabric will match exactly at thebottom of the seam. It is the equivalent of going from being a novice, tobeing a journeyman sewer (that's sew-er, as in a person who sews, not sewer,as in a drain for effluent). It's gotten to the point that I wouldn't mindgetting another Pfaff, so that I don't have to share this one with my wife(so if you don't want that Pfaff, send it my way). (1/2 ;-)

WHITE JEANS : By the way, there is a caveat on the Pfaff 12XX series. Open up the top andcheck the cover to the wire going to the Electric light. The originalmachines had a black rubber tube which the wire is strung through. Thistube will degrade over time; it will get sticky, disintegrate, and gum upthe works. It needs to be replaced at some point with a new plastic tubethat does not have the same problem. If the rubber disintegrates, themachine will have to be taken completely apart and cleaned. This will costabout $200. In spite of this, even if the machine has the old rubber tube,I would still buy it (in fact, the machine that I bought had the old tubeand will eventually have to have this done). As to a new White, I too was looking at them, but was warned off the WhiteJean machine, by a store that used to carry them, but no longer does becauseof long term quality issues. Whites apparently worked great for demo's (itstitches 8 ply of jean material, no problem), but with normal use, they werecoming back to the store in about 6 months with excessive wear showing. Onthe other hand, the store discontinued the White brand well over a year ago,so maybe White has responded to the issues and improved.

WHITE JEANS : By the way, do not get a machine with a drop in bobbin. My wife's oldmachine (4 years old) had that convenience, and while it is nice, themachine will not hold up to heavy sewing. I broke her machine at Ft WordenKitemaking conference, attaching heavy webbing to a kite skin. We havesince been told by several people that drop in bobbins, while veryconvenient, just don't have any guts, and I know personally that it willcost you about $50 each time you try to sew on some fabric which is tooheavy for your machine to handle. Every teacher at Ft Worden, suggestedthat novices start out on a 2nd hand Singer from the 50's or 60's, as theyare so robust, and can do both the stitches (straight and zig-zag), whichkitemakers use.
