STRETCH JEANS : OK - so I pulled out a pair of JCrew jeans that I haven't worn lastfall. They always shrink up when I dry them but then they give when Iput them on. Well, apparently I didn't wear them since I dried themlast and they've been in the top of my closet for quite a few months. So I put them on expecting them to give when I squatted a few times andnothing's happening....I think I *may* have gained about 5 pounds but Iwant to wear these! They look fine but they don't feel that good. Anytips? Thanks for reading...it's a bit embarrasing but I thought ifanyone could help, my alt.fashion friends could!Nothing to be embarassed about, dear! :-) Simply toss your jeans intothe dryer for 10 minutes or so, till they get nice and warm; then putthem on and stretch them out while they're still warm! The warmfibers will give more easily.Good luck! I had the same problem with a pair recently, don't you*hate* that about jeans? It's like trying to step into cardboard...

STRETCH JEANS : If the idea of putting on wet jeans freaks you out, youcan get nearly the same result by washing them and takingthem out of the dryer before they're completely dry. There'll still be enough moisture in them to stretch.-- colette marineschool of education and social policynorthwestern universityFrom: ()Subject: Re: Embarrasing ??....how to stretch jeans... Newsgroups: Date: 1999/10/09 I've tried both techniques, wearing them "hot" out of the dryer, and wet out ofthe washer, and at least from my experience, wet outta the washer tends to"stretch" denim better. Of course, there *is* the fact that you have to getover being in wet cloth like that from the waist down for a while. Oh, yeah, also remember to do some bends, both from the waist and knee, to really stretchthe fabric well. - MarieCheers,- MarieW. Marie Quinn-Marquis"I don't want them looking at my short skirts. STRETCH JEANS : I have been buying online from Speigels and JC Penneys stretch jeans andboot cut jeans. My questions why all the brands are so inconsistent and whatare the comparitive sizes in mens jeans. You've stumbled into a tight corner of ladies' apparel --sizing.Different manufacturers use different standards, and evenwithin a manufacturer's line, you'll have a lot of troublewith jeans and slacks and blouses and... because they willdiffer in their "critical points". For example, I can (and often do) wear Victoria's Secret Catalog Original London Jeans in size 12 -- they come in three lengths -- I need the ones with 33" inseam. Theyare great in the leg, thigh, and hip, but take some littlework to fasten the waist the first time after they're washed. If I buy based on waist size, they will be way big in the seat, hip and leg... (My waist is 32-33 inches, and hipsare about 40 inches). I've gotten some stretch slacks fromsome years ago from The Limited in size 10 that fit fine, and I really mean fine -- you can see some pictures of themin my Orlando pages at my site...

STRETCH JEANS : The ONLY way to know for sure is to try them, but with someexperience with a particular brand, you'll begin to get to the point that you can pick you usual size, next one up andnext one down, and head for the fitting rooms. I really don't have better advice for you.If you need to catalog shop, Spiegels may be nice because they have nice stuff, but Spiegels does not require specificsizing from their vendors like JCPenney, Chadwicks, Roamans, etc., tend to do.This is what happens with vanity sizing, I suppose. It's all relative toother sizes. Anyway, there's really no one, definitive source saying,"Size xx has waist xx, hips xx and inseam xx", so this happens. For thatmatter, I've bought jeans of the same cut and size from the same storeand had them be different sizes, though it looks like the were manufacturedby a different company...
