DESIGNER JEANS : Well, sometimes. I quit shopping for jeans several years ago so I can'tsay for sure, but last time I DID look, the Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and Bill Blass jeans were well made, from a heavy denim, with strongbrass zippers and rivets. Of course, there are also designer jeans that are poorly made, andnon-designer jeans that are well made. So as you said, you do have toexamine every brand and you can't just buy by the label. If people knew how to select a quality garment, they wouldn't shop muchin stores at all, if you ask me. (They'd sew or hire a dressmaker ortailor.) So I'm not surprised people are dependent on labels.------------------------Happy New Year!------------------------agreed. and if you know that _____ Jeans sells for a minimumof $60/pair (or whatever), then don't you look even better forwearing a pair! (like the lightboat basket purses that womencarry around in nantucket... .groan.)
DESIGNER JEANS : i buy my jeans from a thrift store - and the one i love (and missdreadfully - the unique thrift shop in chicago, on 50th and kedzie) had their 50% off every monday, i could pick up a pairof jeans for $1. anyway, i buy only levi's and gap jeans - theyare very well wearing and usually require only some hemming. i'vehad a pair of levi's since i was a h.s. sophomore (i am now inmy 2nd year of grad school) - the knee finally wore out just a couple months ago. they'll become shorts until the butt partwears thin, but that'll probably take another five years. ihave gap jeans that are 5+ yrs old (bought second hand at that!)which have softened slightly at the knee and butt - but i stillexpect many more years out of 'em. btw, i can't say anything about bill blass, ralph lauren, calvin klein, quality b/c i can't afford that kind of stuff. DESIGNER JEANS : --"This note is so open to double entendre replies and flames, that you really shouldn't bother replying." - Robert MethelisAnd its not just jeans. My husband and I were shopping at Christmas timeand he pulled me over to see a rack of men's terry robes. There, sportinga huge Calvin Klein label was the ugliest robe I have ever seen. The terrylooked like the dog had been chewing on it for a month. There were longstraggly threads hanging from it all over, and the material was so thin youcould see your hand through it. My husband, who knows nothing aboutlabels, but did recognize Calvin's name, was amazed, especially when helooked at the price. All I could think of was "What would Calvin Klein sayif he saw how his name was being used?"My point? Designer labels mean diddley if the quality of the garmet ispoor.Oh, yes they do mean something! They mean that the person who lenttheir name to the producing company is still going to get their cut ifyou buy it, and they will go laughing all the way to the bank. DESIGNER JEANS : Probably something to the effect of "AAAAAAAGH!" or "It's a fake!". TheCalvin Klein clothes I've owned have been of better quality than manycompetitors, as has the Ralph Lauren stuff. Unfortunately there are alot of fake designer clothes out there (I remember at the height of thejeans craze the local tv station went around New York City with ajordache representative and they found more fake jordache jeans than real), and even among the real stuff, sometimes something just gets madepoorly and doesn't come to the attention of people high enough up in thecompany before it hits the racks.LOL - no dear....I didn't just notice. But some of us were around when itstarted and thought AT THAT TIME that it MUST be a fad because it was so silly.Gee, we sure think alike. I used to tell my kids that all the time. Only Iwent one step farther and asked why they would pay to advertise for someonethey didn't know. I thought the person doing the advertising should foot thebill, not the consumer who ends up paying anyway in the form of higher prices.LOL! DESIGNER JEANS : I've never understood the term "designer ". SOMEbody had to design themall, it seems.I wear Zena Jeans. I don't know if this falls under your definition of "Designer" or not, but it's the brand of jeans I wear.-=> Quoting to All Message-ID: Cr> Newsgroup: alt.fashion Cr> Organization: Strathclyde University VAX Cluster Cr> To all those of you who wear designer jeans what are your favourites, Cr> this does not include levis lee wrangler etc , but real designer Cr> labels.Hmm...what do you mean by "real designer jeans"? You mean like HUGOBOSS, ARMANI, etc.? I wear REPLAY and I've three different coloredpairs: black, blue-black, and blue. I'm trying to locate a white pairbut no luck yet...... Two most common elements in the universe: Hydrogen & Stupidity.___ Blue Wave/QWK v2.12 A few months ago The New York Times reported thatdesigner jeans are some of Bloomingdale's bestselling items.
